MSU Health Care Pharmacists Make Hand Sanitizer to Sell to the Public

EAST LANSING, Mich.— Pharmacists in the MSU Clinical Center Pharmacy are making a hand sanitizer for purchase by its customer base of MSU patients, faculty, staff, students and retirees, according to guidelines set by the Food and Drug Administration. This temporarily allows pharmacies to compound their own hand sanitizer during the COVID-19 situation due to limited supplies available in stores.
The 3-ounce bottles of hand sanitizer costs $3.00 with a limit of one per customer. They can be purchased while supplies last, and can also be included in pharmacy purchases available for delivery or curb-side pick-up. They can be purchased at the Clinical Center Pharmacy, located at 804 Service Road in East Lansing.
“Frequent hand-washing with soap and water is recommended as the gold standard to lessen the spread of coronavirus,” said Sandy Campbell, Pharmacy Director. “However, there are times when that is not readily available. Having a personal supply of hand sanitizer will allow a person to clean their hands in transit, while in their offices or running errands.”
Pharmacists made 100 bottles of hand sanitizer in the first batch, which sold out in within a week. Pharmacists plan on making more batches of the same size every week as long as there is a need for it in the community.
